Microcosm Technologies Inc. is looking for a Vice President of marketing who can see the big picture.
Founded in 1996, the small company provides software and consulting services for the design of highly miniaturized devices for various industries. These microscopic tools, which include optical switches and inertial sensors, can be found in products such as ink-jet printers and air bags.
The new marketing VP will need to be a competent engineer as well as an exceptional marketer, says Mike Aldrich of Chicago recruiters Martin Partners. The hire will work out of Microcosm's Cary, N.C., headquarters and earn a salary of between $150,000 and $200,000, plus equity, according to Mike Aldrich, who provided more details:
-- What kind of experience should the ideal candidate have? "They should probably have either an electrical-engineering or science-related background as well as significant strategy experience in a marketing role."
-- What will the new VP have to do to make the company grow? "It's really helping the company focus on the most valuable market opportunities. The person has got to be strategically savvy and astute as to where the opportunities are . . ."
-- Will the new VP need to be a micro-manager? "No. It's a very high-powered group . . . You've got to be bright enough to keep up and to lead."
-- Do you expect the ideal candidate will be hard to find? "We're going to have to leave no stone unturned. . . ."
