THE COMPANY

This company is a pioneer in online construction payment management, providing a broad base of innovative capabilities that automate the entire construction payment process.  Their services facilitate communication, automate document creation, provide online document exchange, and enable direct electronic payment.  These services dramatically help general contractors, subcontractors, owners, developers and lenders effectively manage cash flow and risk while reducing costs.  The company is backed by two prestigious private equity funds and there is tremendous momentum behind their “first-mover” advantage and “disruptive” system.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will be the number two financial executive in the company, and will be responsible for supporting the Chief Financial Officer across the full spectrum of CFO responsibilities.  Responsibilities include:

Chief Accounting Officer:  Take responsibility for all aspects of SEC reporting, preparation of a Form S-1 in preparation of a go public event, technical accounting research, SOX 404 compliance, day to day accounting matters, establishment of accounting policies, tax compliance and the external audit. 

Establish Process, Procedures, and Controls:  Because this is a newly formed company, this person will be responsible for continuing the creation of the structure to support the Finance function, including the establishment of an internal audit function, an assessment of the control environment and implementation of appropriate controls.  Additionally, the Controller will participate in the process to select, implement and convert to a new accounting system.  This will require creativity combined with a sense for establishing a disciplined and consistent structure that will serve the company well as it grows.

Global Expansion:  Will be responsible for building and unifying the infrastructure of each new international office, such that each finance area is integrated into one system.  Automate and integrate accounting, budgeting and reporting systems around the globe as the company expands.

A Great Financial Generalist:  Exposure to every facet of the CFO role can be expected.  The ability to adapt, learn and execute is critical.  This person must be able to develop a solution in an area where they have no experience

THE INDIVIDUAL

This position requires a hands-on leader who can roll-up-the-sleeves and work deep into the operational details of the company.  The mentality must be one of “can-do” versus “that request is beneath me”.  This person must fit the definition of “lean and mean”.  The ideal candidate has experience in a multiple office service environment that is entrepreneurial in nature.  Above all, this person must have excellent Controller and leadership capabilities, with the ability to bring a visionary financial perspective to the strategic and operating plans versus simply an historic view.  This person must have the ability to interpret financial results from operations, spotting significant trends and variations to the operating plan.

Candidates must have strong experience across SEC reporting, Sarbanes/Oxley.  The ability to influence and coerce off-site financial staff in an effective way to maximize performance is extremely important.  He/She must be comfortable frequently interacting with the senior management team and have superb organization and communication skills.

This individual must also be a team player, willing to lead by example to set the tone for the area.  This is especially important as it relates to offices around the world where relations are directly tied to effectiveness.  He/she must be self-confident with a strong sense of pride and integrity and be willing to challenge (and be challenged) at all times in terms of business perspective and numbers.  This person must fit the culture, which is “lean and mean.”  Travel will be limited and consist of occasional trips to International locations.  Candidates should have the following experience and characteristics:
