THE POSITION
Reporting to the General Manager, International – Immunology Franchise, the Marketing Director will be responsible for:
People Management
· Manages 4-5 direct reports – split geographically.
Strategic Product Marketing
· Develops and articulates effective marketing strategies that are executable, easily communicated, and clinically supported for areas of Rheumatology.
· Demonstrates ability to segment a market, select optimal target segments and position effectively for the target segment.
· Effectively manages the creation of high impact promotional material that supports strategic objectives.
· Continually evaluates and applies knowledge of the effectiveness (share impact/ROI) and efficiency (expense control) of promotional tactics.
· Manages projects to deliver high quality work product in a timely fashion (meets deadlines).
· Ensures that regulatory and legal guidelines are followed.
· Possesses a comprehensive understanding of the market, market dynamics, key drivers and trends; anticipates opportunities and threats.
· Utilizes available information, data sets and metrics to quantify opportunities / threats, tracks performance, and manages resources.
· Develops and maintains effective collaborative working relations with creative services/agency teams, medical/regulatory teams, commercial analysis, product planning, MHC and sales.
· Develops internal and external customer relationships to successfully drive the business’s objectives.
· Fosters information flow by delivering influential messages that gain support for initiatives and listening to understand alternative points of view.
· Effectively communicates to the marketing team the vision and strategies related to the product.
· Creates working partnerships with clinical project teams and provides input on Portfolio Analysis to support lifecycle management.
PRODUCT
The product is the only fully human monoclonal antibody approved by the FDA for reducing signs and symptoms, inducing major clinical response, inhibiting the progression of structural damage and improving physical function in adult patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis.
This product is indicated for reducing the signs and symptoms of active arthritis in patients with psoriatic arthritis.
The company’s scientists are also researching additional indications including juvenile RA, early RA, Crohn’s Disease, and ankylosing spondylitis.
THE INDIVIDUAL
The successful candidate will approach the role from an experienced business perspective. A strategic thinker, this individual adapts well in a complex corporate environment and demonstrates a high degree of business savvy, and flexibility, while managing a very high profile organization. As a key leader, he/she will provide leadership and direction to subordinates encouraging the open exchange of ideas and knowledge. Specific requirements include:
· MBA from a top university required (domestic or international). Executive MBA preferred.
· A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive career experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is a requirement.
· Experience in developing product marketing strategies and product positions is also required as is outstanding business judgment as demonstrated by a track record in planning, marketing, sales and analytical roles.
· Demonstration of cross-functional leadership capabilities and problem solving ability.
· Demonstrated success translating corporate business goals into strategic marketing and business development initiatives significantly impacting the business.
· A decision maker, not afraid to challenge the status quo with a history of strong leadership.
· Ability to develop a cohesive team and work across organizational boundaries.
· Demonstrated commercial experience in international markets.
