Located in a popular resort destination, this global medical device company is growing and profitable, approaching $300 million in revenue.

 

THE POSITION

Reporting directly to the President, and an active member of the Executive Committee of the Company, this position will plan, direct, and manage all aspects associated with the global marketing of the company’s products. He/she will provide leadership and direction to the strategic planning, voice of customer and product portfolio processes. This person will drive the commercialization process and manage marketing initiatives through subordinate senior managers over Commercial Marketing, Portfolio Management, Marketing Communications, Professional Communications, Professional Development and Professional Education. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

Leadership

  • Responsible for the effective global marketing of all products, overseeing all activities of the Marketing Department including the direct supervision of senior management staff.   
  • Ensures the successful fulfillment of objectives, exercises significant judgment and makes sound decisions in collaboration with other members of the Executive Committee and other cross functional managers.
  • Implements swift and decisive actions to resolve marketing related issues and optimize opportunities.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, processes and applicable regulations. Responsibilities include interviewing, selection, coaching and optimally developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and motivating employees; and removing barriers to achievement of objectives
  • Prepares regular marketing activity reports/presentations including: accomplishments, status of ongoing initiatives, and holds periodic department meetings to ensure communication and alignment of initiatives, information sharing and implementation of best practices.
  • Is key liaison with the global sales and marketing leadership teams, drives integration of successful global marketing strategies; continuously solicits feedback from global sales organization.
  • Works very closely with New Product Development department continuously on portfolio management and business development initiatives.

Strategic Planning

  • Develops and ensures execution of marketing strategies, plans and programs, both short and long range, to ensure the company meets or exceed its profit, financial and market share growth objectives. Ensures effective control of marketing results and takes corrective action when necessary to redirect strategy within designated budgets.
  • Drives Voice of Customer initiatives from mentors, customers, field sales and other sources to ensure accurate information for strategy development.
  • Researches, analyzes, and monitors financial, technological, and demographic factors to capitalize on market opportunities and minimize the impact of competitive activity.

Product Pricing

  • Develops and recommends effective pricing strategies which result in increased market share over the long run and meets our financial objectives.

Business Development

  • Leads the investigation and evaluation of new business opportunities through interaction with outside vendors, corporate partners, clinicians, universities and other engineering, biomaterial or biological firms and entities.
  • Leads negotiations and the formatting of agreements with third parties.
  • Works closely with VP, New Product Development and VP, PSP to ensure alignment of focus and eliminate duplication of efforts.

 

THE INDIVIDUAL

The successful candidate will approach the role from an experienced business perspective. A strategic marketing leader, this individual adapts well in a complex corporate environment and demonstrates a high degree of business savvy, and flexibility, while managing a very high profile organization. As a senior executive, he/she will provide leadership and direction to subordinates encouraging the open exchange of ideas and knowledge. Specific requirements include:

  • Experience as a Marketing Director or VP, Marketing in a highly competitive global medical device market.
  • Experience developing innovative product marketing strategies and product positions. Outstanding business judgment as demonstrated by a track record in planning, marketing, sales and analytical roles.
  • Demonstrated success translating corporate business goals into strategic marketing and business development initiatives that result in global growth.
  • Demonstration of cross-functional leadership capabilities and problem solving ability.
  • A decision maker with a history of strong leadership, not afraid to challenge the status quo.
  • Influence and advise the President and the Executive Committee on future market trends and business development opportunities.
  • Ability to develop a cohesive team and work across organizational boundaries.
  • An excellent communicator: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or regulatory agencies. Ability to prepare and deliver presentations, write articles for publications that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, MBA highly desirable.
